Perth Orchestra Project: Love Songs

Join the Perth Orchestra Project for an evening of lush, rarely heard love songs, led by conductor and artistic director Izaak Wesson and artist-in-residence Bonnie de la Hunty. The programme begins with Ravel’s hauntingly beautiful song cycle on three love poems by French poet Stéphane Mallarmé. This season’s composer-in-residence, up-and-coming West Australian composer Lydia Gardiner, explores the writing of American poet Sara Teasdale in her new work, On Love. WA’s professional chamber choir, the Giovanni Consort, presents Rejuvenate, a celebration of both the glorious history of choral music, and new inspiration. HIP Company celebrates their first birthday with the music of the master, Johann Sebastian Bach, featuring the exquisite cantata, Ich habe genug, BWV 82a. In a unique presentation, Bonnie de la Hunty, Sarah Papadopoulos and Krista Low will be joined by James Huntingford (harpsichord) with remote recorded performances by special guests Katie Yap, Eliza McCracken, Jonty Coy and Michael Lukin. Born out of a collaboration between soprano Bonnie de la Hunty and composer Cara Zydor Fesjian, the programme will include a world premiere of a new song cycle, "Sum One", alongside other poignant and beautiful pieces of modern classical music for soprano and string quartet, investigating themes of identity and belonging. On the 19th November for the 2021 Fremantle Biennale, HIP Company will present ‘Meeting Place’, a concert of Early Music inspired by the theme of Crossings. Set in Fremantle’s heritage-listed The Naval Store, the group’s signature style of Historically Informed Performance practice will allow a crossing between past and present.
